Certified Delmarva Grown: not all “farm stands” actually sell locally grown produce. There are unscrupulous people that want to cash in on the “eat local” movement, and simply purchase produce wholesale and then package and market it to make you feel like you are getting a farm fresh experience. (Beware of those big farm stands on the way to the beach!) Delmarva grown is a certification that farmers can apply for to assure their customers that the food they are purchasing is actually grown by that farmer. When you are shopping at the farmers market always be sure to engage the farmer and ask them: “did you grow this?” “What are your growing practices?” “Do you use pesticides?” “How are your animals raised?” Be an informed consumer and vote with your dollars!
Buying Club Toolkit: do you want to feed your family grass-fed beef, pork, etc, but can’t get to the farmers market weekly, or don’t have a huge freezer? This tool kit will guide you as you set up a multi-family buying club to go in on purchasing whole, half of partial shares of a grass-fed animal.
