Lettuce Catch Up...

Hi There!

It's been wild and wooly around here and I have been remiss in making our weekly blog post!

Every day writing this letter was at the top of the to-do list, and somehow everyday 37 other things managed to slide in ahead!

We are busy, busy planting, and planting some more! Green beans, summer squash and tomatillos all went into the ground last week! The cherry tomatoes in the high tunnel are getting tall and covered in flowers!

Tuesday we delivered the first 50 boxes of our CSA! Lots of logistics, planning, pivoting and learning on the fly! We are thrilled to have the season officially under way.

Two weeks ago we hosted our CSA members here for a farm tour, meet and greet, and orientation session. We had a great time meeting our members and showing them around the farm!

Now in Annapolis...

We are excited to announce that we are part of the Wednesday evening Anne Arundel County Farmer's Market on Riva Road in Annapolis!

Last year this market was small but mighty, and this year we have added more vendors and hope to grow the market into a wonderful mid-week shopping option for the Annapolis area.

Please come out and shop with us on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the corner of Riva Road: 275 Harry S. Truman Parkway in Annapolis!

This week we have LOTS of our pasture-raised eggs - bring a carton to fill - save $1.00 and the planet!

We also have lettuce mix, radishes and tomato seedlings.

Other market vendors include:

  • The Bay Mushrooms

  • Crispens Farm

  • Ryan Mould Crabs and Seafood

  • Gray Wolf Spirits

  • MeatCrafters

  • Dogwood Lane Dairy

  • Pure Microgreens

  • Pottery and Woodworking Artisans

  • ...and more to come!

We would love your support getting this farmer's market off the ground!

It's a bit of a "chicken or the egg" story: if there aren't enough customers, vendors are reluctant to harvest crops and take a gamble that they won't sell them. But, if there aren't enough vendors, customers feel like it isn't worth their time to shop at the market.

If all of us - vendors and shoppers - hang in there together this season, we can grow this market into a wonderful mid-week shopping option for fresh seasonal produce, meat, flowers and more! We hope you will join us!

Freezer packs needed

Do you have a bunch of those freezer packs that come in mail-order produce? (like Blue Apron or Hello Fresh)

We can use them! If you would like to find a good home for them, feel free to drop them off with us at the Chestertown Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, the Annapolis Farmer's Market on Wednesday evenings or send me an email and we can work out how to meet up!

Cheers,

Jennifer & Brian

P.S.: next week I'm all geared up to show you how we harvest our greens and get them ready for market!
